To Kill A Mockingbird

“To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a novel published
in 1960 by Grand Central Publishing. It tells the story of
Scout Finch a six-year-old girl who lives in Maycomb
Alabama during the Great Depression with her older brother
Jem her widowed father Atticus a lawyer and a black cook
named Calpurnia. The plot revolves around Atticus being
appointed to defend Tom Robinson a black man accused of
raping a white woman named Mayella Ewell. Throughout the
trial Scout and Jem face ridicule from their peers and the
town due to Atticus taking the case and the children are
subjected to racial slurs and derogatory language. Despite
Atticus efforts Tom is wrongly convicted and eventually
shot to death while trying to escape from prison. The book
won the Pulitzer Prize and was adapted into an Academy
Award-winning film. It is approximately 376 pages long.
