The Dogs of Babel by Carolyn Parkhurst Paul Iverson a
college professor lives in suburban Virginia with his wife
Lexy Ransome an artist who designs beautiful masks. One
day while Paul is at work Lexy climbs the apple tree for
no apparent reason falling to her death. Overcome by grief
Paul a linguist by training tries to teach their dog how
to communicate with him. since she was the only witness to
the tragedy. And so unfolds the love story of Paul and
Lexy reliving their whole relationship. He tries to make
sense of what is left behind; noticing that some of the
bookshelves have been rearranged in their living room
eventually figuring out a message that Lexy had left for
him. Published in 2003 by Sceptre Books The Dogs of Babel
is Parkhursts first novel. it was followed by Lost and
Found in 2006. Both are bestselling novels. Parkhurst
holds an MFA in fiction from American University.
