The Shadow of the Wind

Its now post-World War II in Barcelona and young David
Semperes bookseller father takes him to a very unusual
place; the Cemetery of Forgotten Books where books are
saved from disappearing into nothingness. He is told by
the keeper of the cemetery to choose one book for him to
protect whereupon he selects The Shadow of the Wind by the
author Julian Carax. Daniel reads and falls in love with
this obscure book and finds out that it is both valuable
because not many copies were printed and also in danger
because someone is systematically burning every copy of
every book written by the now not well known Carax.
Intrigued by these reasons Daniel embarks on an adventure
of trying to detect why this is happening and in turn
uncovers a trail of murder madness and unfortunately
doomed love. Published by Penuin Books in 2004 and written
by author Carlos Ruiz Zafon this book was a huge
bestseller in Spain and throughout Europe when it was
released and now afterwards an international bestseller
